Hulk Cast

We are Parents of the Year!!!

Thank heaven kids are so forgiving.
So Landon got hurt when we played football with the family on Thanksgiving day.
His leg got stepped on, but he cried and complained about how bad his foot hurt to walk on.
First off, my kids are always getting hurt and before now it has never amounted to anything more than scrapes and bruises...so after a quick look and telling him to brush it off.  We went on with the game.
He was crying hard, but after a long trip of late nights and lack of sleep and tons of excitement, his behavior was not all that surprising.  Plus he is known for being rather dramatic.
But, while we all continued to play football, Landon sat out by Aunt Sharon...until he would feel better and want to join us again.
Well, he kept crying and begged Aunt Sharon to "say a prayer" to make it feel better.
She did the best she could, but I guess it didn't do the job, because he quickly asked her to "pray again!" Which she did. (She is one devoted aunt)
Well...we all went back for Thanksgiving dinner at Grandma's house and Landon continued to cry and whine. So we got him some ice and looked at it more closely, wondering if something was really wrong with it. After consulting grandpa and Alyssa, our two experts on sports injuries....they had him stretch and flex it, wiggle his toes...they looked for swelling, etc.  Nothing seemed to be wrong.  No bruising, no swelling...nothing.
So we told our "dramatic" boy to rest, but that he needed to stop complaining.
We headed out to Six Flags where he hobbled all day, then continued to enjoy our trip and even head home back to normal life.  Well, finally ten days later...when trying to help put his shoe on and he again  cried out in pain, we thought.  Okay, what we thought was a bruise, might just need to get checked out.
Well, he broke his bone. NOT his foot as he was complaining, but his leg.  He broke the bone all the way through. So he got a fancy cast. And he was thrilled.
In fact, he got two casts, since the first one didn't set at the right angle. The doctor said if it was a problem to bring him back in and they would just "cut if off" and put on a new one.
Landon thought the doctor said, "Cut off his FOOT" not the cast...we all got a good laugh out of that.
And he was thrilled with his new green "HULK" cast.

Anytime someone asked him what happened to his leg he would say, "Lance stepped on me and broke it." It sounded awful, so we told him to tell people he was playing football and got hurt.  But he said, "but it wasn't from playing football, Lance actually did step on it!" So, after he wasn't convinced how much cooler it would sound to have a sports injury, we told him..."Fine, but you can't say that. It would hurt Lance's feelings."  Then the next week at church when his teacher asked him what happened he said, "My dad said I'm not allowed to tell anyone." So the concerned teacher pulled me to the side to figure out what happened to Landon...it didn't matter what we did, we couldn't win!
Either way, we felt awful having made the poor kid walk on it for the ten days, but he didn't mind at all...he was just so excited to have a fancy cast.  But with all the snow outside, getting around while trying to keep the cast dry, was not easy and it wore out all of his pants...so I was more thrilled when we got to take it off!
